TechBelt Tapes

PTFE coated tapes TechBelt offer a complete range of both non and self adhesive tapes. This ranges from 3mm up to 1000mm wide for self adhesive while our non adhesive tapes will extend to a width of 1500mm.

Adhesive TechBelt Tapes

Our self adhesive tapes are offered in two adhesive types. The more common is the high temperature silicone version that will operate in a temperature range of -73 up to +240°C. This is a pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) therefore needs to be pressed firmly in to place to obtain the best adhesion.

The other type of adhesive is the acrylic that has an operating temperature of -4 to +177°C. This is a high tack version that requires little force to achieve a good bond.

General Care and application advice for adhesive tapes and materials
  • Store in a dark dry atmosphere at 15-25°C and 45-75% relative humidity
  • Silicone PSA tapes are often dry to the tough. The tack of an adhesive does not indicate the peel strength therefore they must be applied evenly and firmly.
  • Above 240°C and over prolonged periods the adhesive could eventually degrade and turn to a white silica powder.
  • Where adhesive tapes are used for roller covering and are expected to perform for long period the adhesives can be thermo set to increase performance.

Typical Thermosetting Cycles are:
  • Silicone Adhesive: 4 hrs at 200°C
  • Acrylic Adhesive: 2 hrs at 120°C/ 1hr at 149°C

Skived and UHMW tapes

Anti Static Tapes

TechBelt tapes are available in carbon loaded antistatic versions where static build up may occur due to surface rubbing or contact. The Antistatic tape allows the static charge to dissipate away from the surface. Please consult out Technical Sales Team for further information on the grades available.

Skived PTFE Tapes

TechBelt Tape is also available in a skived version. This pure PTFE is skived from a billet at the required thickness and has Silicone adhesive applied to one side. This then can be slit in to the required width and applied to areas where a tape needs to be able to conform around tight or small angles. Typical applications are the lining of shoots that may have irregular curves.

UHMW Tapes

For applications where a low co-efficient of friction is required and no real temperature is involved then the UHMW polyethylene (ultra high molecular weight) tape is ideally suited. This material has a maximum operation temperature of 82°C and a surface with high abrasion resistance. Ideally suited for surfaces where low friction is required in an arduous environment.

Zone Tape

Zone tapes are used as a barrier between the hot surface of an impulse heating element and the material that is to be sealed. This tends to be used when sealing plastics like carrier bags etc.

You can see in the diagram below how the zone tapes are made up. When measuring the zone tape we always measure the widths of double sided tapes and the exposed PTFE area. The width of the double sided tape is in most cased always the same width on both sides .i.e. 10mm as shown below.

The materials used more often than not are 3, 5 or 6 thou thick. Therefore the below example would 10x50x10 and whatever thickness is required.

In order to get the double sided material to stick to the PTFE the material has the pre chemically prepared on one side. The process is known as etching.
